Never-Ending Wall Procedure....
Well, here we have it- an already small kitchen with a door! Why the door though? As much as the boys in the house like to joke about me being in the kitchen, I have zero need to be locked in one- this HAD to go, before they realized this was a possibility.
As much as I (and the boys agreed) wanted to take a sledge hammer to the wall and just attempt things on my own, the girls talked me out of it. THANK GOD!
My jiu jitsu training partner and friend has an amazing contract company, JD Contracting. They pay great attention to detail and always do such unique work. Once I asked David to help, he started cutting out the drywall and came across a large duct that was running straight down the middle of the wall from the basement to my bedroom upstairs.
He decided to open it just a little and make a cute ledge. Although I was extremely happy with his work and it was a bit more open, it wasn't doing it for me like I had hoped.
I weighed my options about this problematic duct....
--> If I got rid of it, I would no longer get an airflow or heat-flow to my room upstairs.
--> I already have a heater in my room because the air and heat doesn't reach there like it should.
And that was my answer, once summer came around I would have needed to purchase an air conditioner for my room. What is the difference if I had a crappy air flow or no air flow? Frankly, none. I would much rather seal off that duct and add a full counter-top.
--> More room for cooking
--> A cute bar for me to sit at
--> They boys no longer need to stand over me nibbling in the kitchen while I cook, they could now sit at the bar and snack (my favorite)
--> And the best part! A more open kitchen.
For now, David from JD Contracting and Javier from Exotic Flooring & Design (I love having friends with skills) installed a wood plank so I could use the bar top immediately.
After some paint, and the possibility of adding a granite counter top, the kitchen is almost finished! (Until I decide to do something new)
